Driving Change with Nurses for the Environment: How can healthcare professionals be involved in driving change in sustainability?

We are proud to work with networks that are dedicated to sustainability and driving change for a better tomorrow.

Our own Dr Les Strezov, Founder and Chief Scientist of Carbon LCA Certified was interviewed by Nurses for the Environment about the climate crisis. Recently, Dr Les was recognised as an Earth Advocate, and highlighted the initiatives that can assist you in being a part of the climate solution.

Nurses for the Environment acknowledges healthcare and environmental stewardship, and the impact that the healthcare systems have on the environment, from resource to consumption waste generation. The overall premise of this initiative is to advocate for the environmental sustainability in the healthcare sector specifically, midwives and nurses.

The network provides for collaborative resources, education, and advocates for climate action. It is, therefore, no surprise that Dr Les, has been asked to speak about the practical initiatives healthcare workers could implement to facilitate positive environmental change.

In the article Dr Les advises:

“Make changes and do it now, no matter how small, and encourage those around you at all levels of the organisation to do the same. Real change cannot be implemented without collective action.”

Dr Les uses DrugWaste International as an example of a recent healthcare provider who has committed to becoming net zero and starting their sustainability journey. The most important advice that Dr Les gives healthcare providers and workers is to workers “advocate for measuring carbon emissions of the organisation in order to create a benchmark from which strategies and actions for improvement can be developed and monitored.”

Carbon LCA Certified is excited in patterning with Nurses for the Environment in recognising Dr Les as their Earth Advocate this month.
