Frequently asked questions.

What is an LCA?

A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a method used to determine the potential environmental impact of a product or service during its life cycle from raw material extraction through to the processing, manufacturing, distribution, use, and disposal or recycling.

What does it mean to be Carbon Neutral/Net Zero?

Many companies, organisations, and governments have made the commitment to become ‘Carbon Neutral/Net Zero’, meaning they have made a commitment to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to zero. However, not as many have tangible targets and strategies in order to achieve these aspirations. At Carbon LCA Certified we are ready to provide our expertise and support on the journey to Net Zero. To us, Net Zero is more than just a catch phrase, it is the need for fundamental transformation to a Net Zero society.

What do I receive at the end of the LCA?

In the package you will receive a full LCA Report, a third party report (if required), and a condensed report version for marketing and promotions. In addition, you will receive a set of recommendations that will help you develop improvement strategies, actions and targets. We will issue one of two Certifications (Physical and digital) which reflect the stage of your journey to becoming carbon neutral.

Why should I do an LCA?

LCAs are an industry accepted practice that will provide you with quantified environmental impacts of your services and/or products on a standardised defensible basis. The results are used to improve environmental and business performance and communicate to other businesses, consumers and communities.

An Environmental Product Declaration, or EPD, is a document which transparently communicates the environmental performance or impact of any product or service over its lifetime.

How can I certify my product as carbon neutral?

This process requires several steps:

  1. Quantify greenhouse gas emissions by completing an LCA study consistent with international standards

  2. Based on the LCA develop strategies and actions to reduce emissions

  3. Reduction strategies are implemented until net zero is achieved, or

  4. Net zero is achieved via purchase of carbon offsets.

Product certification applies only to the specific product in question and provides information on the lifecycle of that particular product. Business certification applies to the totality of the business operation which typically includes all of its products and services.

What are the different levels of certification you provide?

We provide 2 levels of certification for businesses, their services or individual products. The first level of certification “On the Path to Net Zero” is issued to entities after the completion of an LCA to signify your commitment to environmental improvement. The second level is the “Carbon Neutral” certification, which signifies the business/product has achieved the goal.

What types of businesses do you certify?

We work with all types of businesses irrespective of size. As the services we provide are remote, we are able to certify businesses across the world.
