Critical Reviews

Critical review is a technique to verify whether an LCA study has met the requirements of the ISO 14040 for methodology, data and reporting. More specifically the critical review ensures that:

  • The methods used in the LCA are consistent with the International Standard and are scientifically and technically valid

  • The data used is appropriate and reasonable in relation to the goals of the LCA

  • The interpretations reflect identified limitations and the goal of the LCA

  • The LCA report is transparent and consistent

A critical review is a requirement for LCA studies that make a comparative assertion about their product that is disclosed to the public. The use of the LCA results to support comparative assertions raises special concerns and requires critical review, since this is likely to affect interested parties that are external to the LCA study.

Carbon LCA Certified can offer the service of external expert critical review when necessary.
